Hopefully we can use it to fight the spam posts we get every day. It'd be great if inside the Moderation tag, we could see a "semaphore-like" indicator next to every new post to moderate. Based on the subject, account age, amount of published posts in the last 24 hours, etc.

Please keep Gemini from the writing process. I don't want its suggestion while I'm writing a post or making comments. Super annoying when it interrupts the process.

A pre-post error finder/tone evaluator would be interesting. Currently I copy my posts over to gemini just before posting to get a hand with proof reading.

Not cool. Sad. AI, AI everywhere, and even without the AI hype, I'd rather hope the DEV community aimed for more open source and independence from commercial (US American) companies.
I tend to have the same feelings, but I'm afraid it's a lost battle (well I think there isn't even a battle at all) - AI isn't going away and we need to "deal" with it, whether we like it or not ... I'm afraid it's just a matter of "adapt or perish", and rather than resisting it tooth and nail it's probably better to embrace the good (useful) aspects of AI, while still making an effort to combat the negative sides ...
Ingo Steinke is a Berlin-based senior web developer focusing on front-end web development to create and improve websites and make the web more accessible, sustainable, and user-friendly.
Yes and no. Yes, let´s embrace the positive aspects and keep learning. On the other hand, let's not waste too much time exploring the depths of a volatile trend. Because "artificial intelligence", in its current, form will be obsoleted by something else and people will get tired of the buzzword, just like few people are advertising Web3 and blockchain anymore. But one thing that generative LLM-based AI already changed is the task of content creation.
I don't want to waste my efforts crafting a valuable post and publish it for free, when I know it will be scraped by machines to help other people write their clickbait posts, like 25 things every dev must know about AI, basically remixing stolen content that others have taken time and effort to research, experiment and make up their own minds. Let them output more AI slop, let future AI generations get trained on the sloppy slop and eventually get stuck in an echo chamber of their outdated content. I'd rather spend more face-to-face time with real people at real events, workshops, and customer projects, write less, and focus publishing on my website or maybe write a paid newsletter. I'm sorry for DEV, StackOverflow, and many other free community platforms, but maybe more people will revive their own blogs and websites and find ways to escape the (not) inevitable future of omnipresent AI slop.
Okay, so you're talking about using AI for content creation - I was rather thinking about the impact of AI on developers' work, i.e. writing code - maybe you're right about content creation, but when you say:
"... because "artificial intelligence", in its current, form will be obsoleted by something else ..."
then I highly doubt that that will be the case for coding (writing code) - I expect (fear?) that it's here to stay, and will become ever more pervasive, whether we like it or not ... I'm afraid we won't really have a choice.
P.S. full disclosure - I'm not even using AI for coding myself yet - but if I'd be fresh out of college I'd probably feel "forced" to start learning and using it, or else soon I'd probably be surpassed left and right by people who DO use it ... that's the point I'm afraid - I think we won't really have a choice - adapt or perish ...
I'll just pop in to say that we completely understand the sentiment here and don't ask that you be on board.
I will note that this partnership has nothing to do with training data, or anything of deep integration. We're working with devrel principally for education and support on making use of the tools. I don't think that's necessarily sufficient for the overall concerns here, but I wanted to note them.
Through much consideration we feel that we have to educate and integrate this important new technology. And we'd stand by that as a part of helping as many people in their careers given the evolution — but it is a complicated topic to say the least and we appreciate that this perspective is represented in the comments here.

I've been watching the growing adoption of Gemini AI in the dev community, and honestly, I can't help but feel like we're slowly selling our soul—trading independence, transparency, and community-driven innovation for short-term convenience and polished APIs.
We’ve always been the kind of people who value openness, control, and freedom to tinker. But now I see a shift. Gemini (and others like it) come wrapped in slick documentation, IDE integration, and marketing buzz—and slowly, we’re accepting black-box tools in place of systems we understand and can build on.
I get it. Gemini is powerful. It’s deeply integrated into Google’s stack, and for many developers, it just works. But let’s not pretend it comes without a cost. The more we rely on centralized, corporate-owned AI models, the more we lose:
Our ability to verify and audit model behavior
The freedom to customize and self-host
The spirit of collaborative open-source progress
And let’s be real—this isn’t just about technical trade-offs. It's about who controls the future of code. Are we shaping the tools, or are they shaping us?
If we care about a future where developers aren't just users of AI, but co-creators and owners of the stack, we need to keep supporting:
Open-source models (Mistral, LLaMA, etc.)
Projects like LangChain, Ollama, and LocalAI
Independent communities building AI with us, not over us
This isn’t a "Google bad" rant. It's a call to stay alert. To keep questioning the direction we’re heading. To choose tools not just for how powerful they are, but for what they represent.
Big AI will always push to own the narrative. It’s on us to remember what made this community great in the first place—and not trade it for a handful of API keys.

Lets hope the tool itself gets improved upon. I had a beta trial of it and it really isn't ready for mainstream deployment, it chokes on even basic applications. Sadly the AI hype train is in full flight.
This partnership feels like a meaningful step for the developer community. Excited to see AI being used not just for flashy features, but to genuinely empower learning, connect people, and elevate collaboration. A reminder that technology works best when it amplifies human potential, not just automates tasks
How i recover my funds back
Please always be careful when choosing where to invest and trade, i was scammed over $350,000 after they convinced me to invest with them hoping to get my profit back. After depositing my first $400,000 waiting to receive my profit after 7 days I waited for over 3 weeks no profit was sent to me , I contacted their customer support team they requested I deposit another $50,000 before they can processed my withdrawal request. I deposited the $50,000 making it total $350,000 and I waited to receive my payment still no profit was sent, i contacted their customer support again this time none of my messages or calls were answered. At this point I became frustrated because I lost all the money in my savings ,in search for help on how I can get access to my fund I was directed to contact some agencies who will help me recover my money back, I never believe because I don’t want to loose more again but I was forced to contact ACCESSRECOVERYCONSULTANT a bitcoin and forex recovery expert. I contacted him with the email they directed to me after getting my mails he asked me to forward some details to prove am not an impostors, I verified my identity and he asked me to provide all the details concerning my trade, i did exactly all he asked me to do , to God be the glory within 4-5 days I was able to accessed my fund again , the total money lost was recovered successfully. I will advise all scammed victims like me to kindly contact ACCESSRECOVERYCONSULTANT with the email below for help, he will assist you with all information needed to get back your fund successfully, reach him via his email (ACCESSRECOVERYCONSULTANT @ GMAIL COM)

And yes: Spam-fighting is a huge huge huge reason for this.
We need to scale and improve our efforts — of course to combat smarter AI-generated spam.
Really great thing to thought about, Good point you brought here.
This is amazing news! Can’t wait to see how Google AI and DEV work together to bring smarter tools and learning opportunities to the community.
I have been writing many posts about Gemini.
And, like both Gemini and DEV Community, so this news is very interesting! 🤯

Great to see Google AI teaming up with DEV. Excited for the new tools and learning experiences this collaboration will unlock for developers.
Super news! Congrats @peter @ben @jess It’ll help to distinguish high quality posts from spam, low quality, completely AI generated content 😊
Gemini is excellent, already delivered 2 apps to clients where they can actually choose time as a parameter to get a response.
This is awesome @ben
Can I work on creating learning tracks for the community here?
Interesting question! Learning tracks mean a few things and we don't have any member-generated stuff in the works specifically for learning tracks but it is something we should think about. cc @jess

Yup, no plans on integrating anything like that
We want to embrace the things people love about being part of spaces like this, including and especially expressing things in their own voice.
We hope that anything shipped feels subtle and additive and not rushed stuff that screams "We have AI!!"
thanks!
