I Treat My AI Chat History Like a Bookshelf, Not a Browser

Most people think of their AI chat history like browser history — a list of places they've been, organized by date, meant to be cleared eventually.

I think of it like a bookshelf. Each conversation is a book. Some are reference books I'll come back to. Some are novels I read once and enjoyed. Some are textbooks I'm still studying.

The difference between a browser and a bookshelf is intentionality. You don't just dump books anywhere on a shelf. You organize them. You label them. You keep the ones that matter and donate the ones that don't.

That's how I treat my AI conversations now. Important ones get exported and filed by topic. Throwaway ones stay in the platform and eventually get cleaned up. The exported ones become part of my personal library — a collection of thinking, decisions, and insights that I built over time.

The tool I use is XWX AI Chat Exporter. It works across all my AI platforms — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok — in one extension. Before I had this, I was using different export methods for different platforms, and the inconsistency made the whole system feel fragile. Now it's one click, same format, regardless of where the conversation happened.

Markdown is unlimited on the free tier. PDF gives you 3 per day. I use Markdown for my bookshelf because it's searchable and editable.

Your AI conversations are worth more than browser history. Treat them like books.
