From Distracted to Focused: Mac Apps That Actually Made a Difference

Konark Sharma on April 26, 2026

I kept thinking I’ll write this someday. But every time I sat down, I felt like I’m not “productive enough” to talk about productivity. Some days ...

I tend to not use any productivity apps because it distracts me more than it is useful. It's a weird thing, but it happens to me unfortunately since I have to be responsible for using the app.

Great post btw and thanks for sharing the app that you used! Also, thanks for using my Dev Log image as an example for your case of switching windows lol

These aren't mostly productive apps but the apps that I use that helped me be a better person which in terms means productive so. It's a good approach to don't use productivity apps they can be distracting for sure. I have gone in that pit hole myself so better stay away.

Yeah, with switching windows I can read your 4 articles in one sitting. Thank you for your kind words always.

Thank you for sharing! Lots of interesting productivity apps. 📝 I’m also using Notion and love it, but I think it would be better if it were lighter. 🪶

Yes, I do feel that as well and maybe if we use it heavily like creating many databases, it will take more time to load. I used to use it on the website but it mostly crashed then I moved to the app but for me something was off. But, I loved notes app it is fast, accessible and boots up asap when needed.

Yes, maybe I just have too much data. 😅 I would love to try it if there is a good alternative.

You can depends on your need. If you write too much Notes can be a better options it can be a basic version of Notion but it gets the job done and for me it opens in an instant and give the data I want so I prefer it. You can give it a try, I have used other apps like Microsoft Onenote, Evernote, Obisidian but they weren't my cup of tea. You can watch a few videos before switching that can help you with clarity whether you want to switch or not. I am talking about Notes app provided by Apple.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I’m a Windows user, so I cannot use Apple Notes. I’ve heard many people say Obsidian is good, but I haven’t tried it yet. 📝

that opener about not feeling productive enough to write about productivity is more honest than most of these lists. what's the one app you'd keep if the rest vanished?

Thank for your kind words. Well, it's a tough question to answer and hard to choose. Since, I write so much so notes app for now rest can vanish.

notes makes sense - writing context doesn't travel cleanly to anything else. the app becomes the second brain before you notice.
