What was announced On 1 May 2026, UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) formally launched the Fundamental AI Research Laboratory — a six-year, up to £40 million programme sitting within EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council). The lab is chaired by Raia Hadsell, VP of Research at Google DeepMind and DSIT's AI Ambassador since November 2025.
