I didnât open Google Cloud NEXT â26 because I was excited.
I opened it because I was scared of being left behind.
Everywhere I looked â AI agents, automation, faster builds, smarter tools.
It didnât feel like a conference.
It felt like the future⌠moving without me.
đ§ The Pressure No One Talks About
People say things like:
- âThis will change everythingâ
- âThis makes development easierâ
- âYou can build 10x faster nowâ
But no one really says what it feels like on the other side.
Because when youâre still figuring things outâŚ
it doesnât feel like opportunity.
It feels like pressure.
Every announcement didnât feel like innovation.
It felt like a reminder: you need to move faster.
âď¸ So I Tried Anyway
Instead of just watching, I decided to build something.
Not for a company.
Not for a demo.
Not for the internet.
Just for me.
A simple idea:
- a small eCommerce-style page
- product listing
- admin page
- some AI-generated content
Nothing fancy.
Just something real enough to matter.
𧰠What I Used (Inspired by NEXT â26)
- AI (Gemini-style prompting / content generation)
- Firebase (for backend + storage)
- Custom frontend (because design matters⌠a lot)
đźď¸ [Build Snapshot]
Not perfect. Not scalable. But mine.
đ The Part I Didnât Expect
The AI responded instantly.
But I didnât.
I paused more than I thought I would.
Re-read outputs.
Adjusted prompts.
Questioned decisions.
It wasnât âbuild faster.â
It was:
âWait⌠is this even right?â
đŞ The Truth I Had to Face
Google didnât make me feel powerful.
It made me realise how much I still donât understand.
And for a moment, that feeling was uncomfortable.
Because suddenly:
- tools are faster than you
- outputs are instant
- expectations are higher
And youâre still⌠human.
đ§ What Most People Are Not Saying
Let me say the quiet parts out loud:
- AI doesnât remove complexity â it shifts it
- Faster tools donât mean better decisions
- You can generate code instantly⌠but not judgment
- Building something real still requires you
đ [Dev Flow Shift]
We didnât remove steps. We rearranged them.
đą The Shift
At some point, I stopped trying to âkeep up.â
And started asking a different question:
âWhat do I actually want to build?â
Not whatâs trending.
Not whatâs fastest.
Not what looks impressive.
Just⌠something meaningful.
I didnât leave Google Cloud NEXT â26 with a polished system.
I didnât build anything revolutionary.
But I left with something quieter.
Something more important.
The decision to keep building â
even when it feels like everything else is moving faster than you.
