Thank you to all those who have been along along for the ride, and we hope you have been enriched by at least one thing you've read on DEV. I suspect you have.
We're deep in the continuous process of reinvention, and growth of all kind to ensure that we provide a valuable experience for the whole developer ecosystem. This would not be possible without all 1 million of those registered members (even the spam bots and hackers, who have helped us develop a resilient system). It's exciting to take a moment to celebrate this milestone.
Of those registered members are 669 individuals who have committed code to Forem, the open source technology that powers DEV â and our core team members, past and present.
Here's to the first million, and our collective efforts to create a welcoming environment for the next million!

What I find admirable is not that DEV has merely grown Big.
It is that it has grown Big without growing Bad.
Obviously that's always a work in progress.
But still, that's like the quadrature of circle on the modern internet.

Yup no toxicity without much moderation tools or such. Stack for instance has too much priesthood at this point.
Yeah, StackOverflow sucks. That's one of the reasons I originally migrated to DEV.
Unfortunately nowdays it is dead (for me).

While the community isn't toxic I've heard there's a lot of bots and spamstuff.
