Good question! I think the most useful thing of these hacks is the visible, contenteditable style tag. I have a web app where the users can apply their own styling by providing a user-styles.css file.
With this trick they could write it on the page itself and immediately see the effects.

Oh, interesting thought! I honestly don't know. It has a title and description, so that's good, but it literally has nothing else. So maybe Google thinks it's a blank page?
